Took a while but here is the next part.
I was indeed taking the backroads home. The 15 highway would later connect to the 60 where I would be able to head back to LA. I was looking at a good 140 mile drive home. It would probably take me a good five to six hours depending on how bad traffic was.
The dust around the road began to pick up and the mirages began to form. I rolled up the windows and turned the air conditioner on. My worried eyes scanned the mirrors for cops and the water temperature gauge to make sure the car would not overheat. It would truly suck if I was stranded out in this desert.
My phone rang and Mike's cell phone number flashed on the display. "Hey whats up?" I said as I answered the phone. "Where are you right now?" he said in a panic stricken voice. "I'm on the 15 right now headed to Bobby's shop, why whats wrong?" I replied. "Dude you've got to get the car off the road and out of sight immediately! I can't tell you why right now but just trust me! I have to go but try to go someplace friendly. I'll call you later!" with that he hung up.
I only had 2 of the 3 bars of the battery showing on my cell phone screen. My phone had at best 3 to 5 hours left on it before it would crap out. I took my girlfriend's phone and shut it off just in case I would need to use it later. I'm guessing the cops were after me and they got Mike first. This was definately bad news and I thought hard about places in the immediate area that I could go to.
The next town was Temecula. There was a shop in the town owned by a guy I used to go to high school with. He came out here after taking a few body shop classes toup his own place. He was my best bet in this fucked up situation. I felt the sweat trickle down my forehead and took the nearest exit. I was about to ask a guy I hadn't seen in years to save my ass from getting certain jail time...
