Here it is people! The how to install a 4G63T into your 7G Galant article that many of you have been dying for! Keep in mind this article will be very helpful for those with 8Gs as well!
I have to say a big big thanks goes to Tim for the article whom I'm very proud of. We spent many many months on his car and it all came out badass with few problemos. This article is the first in a series because I like to put things in a series. It makes things easier on me. Ok so anyhow people PART ONE!
by Tim Kaye-Johnson
This is an article of how to swap a 4g63 JDM lancer engine into your 7th generation Mitsubishi Galant. The engine is a 4g63t Lancer EVO 2 engine (tuned by AMG! - djplay). The car is a white 95’ Mitsubishi Galant S. Remember, this is being written a while after the swap has been done.
So this is all straight from my head and I apologize for anything left out or different on your car. I also am going to write in the sense that whomever is doing this transition is fluent in cars. If you do not know what an Ignition Control Module or an Idle Air Control motor is, I BEG YOU PLEASE TAKE YOUR CAR TO A CUSTOM SHOP AND HAVE THIS DONE. With that said, this will also be a very general walkthrough. Instead of take out #7 bolt I will say take off ac compressor. Please understand that this is a swap that took months to do with money I did not have. Attempt this at your own risk, I did.
Any questions you have should be answered by an official mechanic. You also may email me at TERAKAIJER and I will also help you to the extent of my power. My car is still under construction as well. I have no exhast. But we will come to that later. So let’s get started!
HERE ARE A FEW NOTES:
- A LIFT OR JACK STANDS OR SOME WAY OF RAISING THE CAR WILL BE NEEDED. I used concrete blocks and a jack. I don’t think this swap could have been any harder on me.
- AN ENGINE CRANE WILL BE NEEDED. I myself had to use a farm tractor.
- THE ENGINE I BOUGHT FROM WWW.TPAUTOMOTIVE.COM CAME WITH ACCESSORIES THAT WORKED. BUT I STILL NEEDED TO BUY COMPONENTS.
- ALL LOCATIONS ARE TAKEN FROM THE DRIVER’S SEAT. The battery on 7th generations should be at the front right of the engine bay. The radiator is at the front of the engine bay.
- I HAD TO FABRICATE MYSELF AND HAVE MOTOR MOUNTS MADE FOR THE ENGINE. To be exact, I had a base welded to the rear frame behind the engine just in front of the firewall. There I used the rubber center mount from the old engine with the mount fork of the new one. The Lancer engines have a mount on the engine. Galant transmissions have the mount so it would probably be easier to use this one.I have been told I am the first to do the lancer swap so I do not know what problems torque thrust of the engine might cause if you mount by using the trans mount.or for that matter any problems that occur due to different actions.
- For the record I had an automatic transmission. I had an automatic Galant but I converted it to a manual. This is a whole different swap. I might document that one as well but at a later time. For now I am using a 96 Galant Manual transmission.
- I HAD ACCESS TO ALLDATA. Alldata is service manuals on computer.I go to Lincoln Tech, there I had the opportunity to use it for wiring diagrams and service procedures. I however am not endorsing Lincoln Tech. I am endorsing Alldata.
- YOU WILL ENCOUNTER PROBLEMS, THIS IS THE EARLY STAGES OF A NEW CUSTOM CAR TREND.
- I WILL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.
